Greater Allegheny Defeats New Kensington in PSUAC Men's Soccer Opener

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - The Penn State New Kensington men's soccer team was defeated by Penn State Greater Allegheny in the team's home opener Wednesday. The game also marked the opening of PSUAC play for both teams. New Kensington's record now stand at 1-4, 0-1 PSUAC, while Greater Allegheny moves to 2-1, 1-0 PSUAC. 

The teams were evenly matched until Belmo Nurkic scored, unassisted, in the 25th minute. Greater Allegheny went on to score twice more over the next six minutes to gain a healthy cushion.  They would go on to add one more in the final minutes to make the final score 4-0. 

Freshman Chris Zolet (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) made five saves in net for New Kensington, while Andrew Perenic (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and Nolan Johngarlo (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) each put two shots on goal.

New Kensington is in the midst of a five-game homestand and will host two games over the weekend. On Saturday, the Nittany Lions will face Penn State York at 1:00 p.m. and will return to the pitch on Sunday to face Penn State Hazleton at 2:00 p.m.
