Penn State New Kensington Men's Soccer defeats Penn State Beaver, Advances to PSUAC Semifinals

The Penn State New Kensington Men's Soccer team was able to handle Penn State Beaver by a score of 4-1 on Monday afternoon at Valley High School.

A pair of Michael Clear goals in the 19th and 33rd minutes proved to be all the offense that PSNK needed in their PSUAC Quarterfinal matchup against Beaver. The score remained 2-0 through halftime until New Kensington's J.D. DeMarco ripped a shot from the right side of the box to beat the keeper as Beaver was trying to clear the ball.

Penn State Beaver was able to get on the scoreboard late when Tyler Blake scored in the 71st minute to push the score to 3-1.

Casey Cavanaugh put the proverbial final nail in the coffin with a 82nd minute penalty kick to give the game its final score of 4-1.  Cavanaugh also had an assist on Clear's 33rd minute goal as he was able to lob the ball over the Beaver defense and give Clear a one on one opportunity with the goalie.

New Kensington's defense was stout throughout the game only allowing five shots on goal.  Great efforts by Colton Tomporoski, Michael Toney, Perry Sciulli, and Cavanaugh kept Penn State Beaver silenced for the majority of the game.

Freshman Goalie, Jimmy Cook, was able to record three saves on four shots faced and also prevented play from developing during Penn State Beaver's only corner kick attempt.

With the win, Penn State New Kensington advances to the PSUAC Playoff Semifinals to play top-seeded Penn College on Wednesday, October 24th at 5 p.m.
