New Kensington Falls by Three in Men's Basketball

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — Down by only three, Penn State New Kensington's men's basketball came up short to Penn State Brandywine, 88-85. New Kensington is 7-17 overall and 3-15 in the conference towards the end oftheir season. 

The start of the first half was rocky for New Kensington. Down by 12 at one point, the Lions were able to close in on Brandywine with a four point difference. Thomas Gilmore (Sharon, Pa./ Grit Sports Academy) led New Kensington with ten points. Jakob Richardson (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Seton LaSalle) and Jamison Nee (Natrona Heights, Pa./ Highlands) both put in nine points. Two of Nee's points were free throws that he easily knocked in. Richardson had three rebounds and Nee had two. New Kensington was behind 42-37 after the first half. 

In the second half, New Kensington outscored Brandywine by two, but it wasn't enough to push them ahead from Brandywine's early lead in the first half. Once again, Gilmore led in points, 16, and hit both of his three-point shots. He grabbed five rebounds as well. Richardson sunk 11 and racked up the most rebounds, six. Nee also scored big, putting up eight points for the Lions. 

Gilmore scored his season high against Brandywine, 26. Richardson added up 20 points and nine rebounds. Nee led in steals, three, and made 17 points. 

The men will play their last game on Sunday, Feb. 17 against Penn State Lehigh Valley. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
