New Kensington Loses Tough One to Schuylkill

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Penn State New Kensington's men's basketball team played tough against Penn State Schuylkill but couldn't get a win, 106-76. New Kensington is placed 7-11 overall and 3-9 in conference play.

New Kensington started off the first half with the lead against Schuylkill, but soon the scores were too close for comfort. The teams battled for a majority of the half, having score differences of just one or two points. Thomas Gilmore (Sharon, Pa./ Grit Sports Academy) hit double digits for the Lions in the first half, 14, and not only led in points, but also in rebounds, seven. Jakob Richardson (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Seton LaSalle) put up three layups and a free throw to help New Kensington out when the score kept going back and forth, totaling up seven points. By the end of the half, Schuylkill had broken away from the tight score and pulled ahead, 45-34.

In the second half, Lamar Lewis (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Carrick) hit all of his free throws, four, and added five more points to that. Gilmore also put up nine points, including a last-minute layup to end the half. However, Schuylkill walked away with the victory.

Gilmore led the Lions in points, 23, and led in rebounds, 11. Richardson produced 17 points and grabbed six rebounds. Lewis totaled up 12 points, and Brian Davidson (Pittsburgh, Pa./ North Catholic) had ten.
