New Kensington Come Back Leads to Win in Men's Basketball

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – In a second half comeback, Penn State New Kensington defeated Penn State DuBois in a conference matchup, 92-90. This brings New Kensington's record to 7-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

Thomas Gilmore (Sharon, Pa./Grit Sports Academy) made a jump shot within seconds of the start of the game for the Lions, but soon after, DuBois scored and kept their lead for the rest of the half. DuBois led by as many as 14 points early on in the first half, but New Kensington continued to fight back. Jamison Nee (Natrona Heights, Pa/Highlands) carried the team with ten points in the first half, including two three-pointers. Gilmore put up in nine points and tracked the ball down for six rebounds. Jakob Richardson (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Seton Lasalle) was another big scorer for the Lions, putting in seven points. Even with New Kensington's strong efforts, the half ended 40-34 with DuBois in the lead.

It wasn't long before the Lions were able to tie DuBois in the second half on a three-pointer drilled in by Lamar Lewis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick). From that point forward, New Kensington maintained the lead against the visitors, which led to their win. New Kensington spent the half putting big numbers onto the board, especially from Brent Ivory (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle), 17, Brian Davidson (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic), 11, and Nee, 11. Ivory hit every three-pointer he shot, three, and led not only in points, but also with five rebounds.

Ivory was at the forefront for points tonight, 23, and had a total of eight rebounds and five assists. Nee contributed 21 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Adding more points to the board were Gilmore, 17, Davidson, 13, and Richardson, 12. Gilmore also grabbed seven rebounds and Richardson had six.

The men will travel to Penn State Scranton this Friday, Jan. 25 for a conference matchup. Tip off is at 7:00 p.m.
