New Kensington Sails Past WCCC in Men's Basketball

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. – Penn State New Kensington men's basketball team, led by Carrington Smith (New Castle, Pa./ New Castle), swept away Westmoreland County Community College on Wednesday night, 129-59. Smith accumulated 31 points, seven of which were three-pointers; an all-time high for Smith this season. Penn State New Kensington remains 0-2 in conference play, but improves to 4-4 overall. 

Jakob Richardson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton Lasalle) and Tavon Ngangum (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) put up 25 and 22 points respectively. Richardson was in the forefront for rebounds and grabbed 12 out of the 47 collected by the team. He had 5 steals to go along with those rebounds. Ngangum fell right behind Richardson with 8 rebounds, and aided the team with 4 assists.  

Along with the rest of the Lion's starting line-up, Lamar Lewis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick) and Jamison Nee (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands) hit double digits in the game. Lewis put up 19 points, almost half of which were free throws, and Nee hit 5 three-pointers, which accounted for more than half of his 17 points.

Penn State New Kensington is set to head off to Penn State Du Bois this Friday, December 7, for a conference match. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
