New Kensington gets swept away by Greater Allegheny

RUSSELLTON, Pa. – Competing against Greater Allegheny Saturday afternoon, New Kensington baseball fell in its double header, 9-1 and 11-3. The team is now placed 0-3 in the conference and 0-5 overall.

Game 1

Greater Allegheny quickly secured its lead into the game. Scoring in five of seven innings, the visitors put up all nine runs by the top of the seventh. At that time, new Kensington had remained with zero.

In the bottom of the seventh, New Kensington made its first move. Thomas Santiago Jr. (Jersey City, N.J./M.E.T.S. Charter) walked. He advanced to third off a Branden Stipetich (Blawnox, Pa./Fox Chapel) double to left field and scored off a ground out by Mario Gomez (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Hasbrouck Heights). After New Kensington's third out, Greater Allegheny took the win, 9-1.

Stipetich was 1-for-1 with his double.

Game 2

Within the first four innings, Greater Allegheny ran in 10 while New Kensington remained with no score.

Heading into the bottom of the fifth down 10-0, Gomez singled to right field for New Kensington. He made it onto third after Alex VanMeter (Fort Myers, Fla./Dunbar) singled and eventually scored when Braden Tristani (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) reached first on a fielder's choice. With two outs, Tallon Auth (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) singled to shortstop allowing Tristani to move to second. Auth and Tristani made it home off a Max Oliveri (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) double to center field.

After New Kensington's third out, the score read 10-1 in favor of Greater Allegheny. The visitors ran in one more during the top of the sixth and finished the game ahead, 11-3.

Auth, Gomez, and Oliveri hit 1-for-3. Oliveri added a double and two RBI.

New Kensington's next games will be played Sunday, Apr. 4 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. against Penn State Greater Allegheny.
