Lions Fall to Greater Allegheny

MCKEESPORT, Pa. – Penn State New Kensington baseball and Penn State Greater Allegheny faced off in nine innings. New Kensington was unable to bring home the win, 11-3.

While the first two innings were slow for both teams, Greater Allegheny brought in four runs during the bottom of the third. The score remained 4-0 until the top of the fifth

During this inning, Sebastien Nelson (Ardmore, Okla./ Ardmore) singled a line drive to right field and Anthonio Rhome (Monessen, Pa./ Monessen) singled to left field. Darius Bennis (Leechburg, Pa./ Leechburg) hit a ground ball, leading to scores by Nelson and Rhome. Greater Allegheny scored one after New Kensington was done batting. New Kensington was still behind, 5-2, moving into the sixth inning.

Reise Matson (Kittanning, Pa./ Armstrong) singled during the sixth, but was left on base. Greater Allegheny then scored one. In the seventh inning, Rhome singled and was also left one base. Greater Allegheny went on to score three in the bottom of the inning. This put them ahead 9-2.

Once again, Greater Allegheny pulled ahead further in the bottom of the eighth, scoring two. With an opportunity to close in the score, New Kensington scored one in the last inning. Justin Lindeman (Murrysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) was up to bat first and doubled a fly ball to left field. Nelson singled to center field and Lindeman scored.

Lindeman also pitched for six innings and struck out four.

New Kensington will play their last doubleheader of the season against Penn State Greater Allegheny on Mon., April 22. Game times are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
